A breastplate is the part of plate armor which covers the front of the torso. As separate armor it appeared at the beginning of the XIV century. The earliest records of breastplate usage are mentioned in description of the armor of Edward III, king of England. This manuscript was made by Gerard deTournai between 1337 and 1341 and contains a description of “Poitrines pour les joustes” (Breastplates for jousts). From approximately 1380 the breastplate was worn without a coat of plates and gained a rounded shape. It was worn over the padded gambeson or jupon.

The inspiration for our Steel Breastplate was used without a back plate. The original armor artifact was made in Milan at the end of the XIV century. Now it is preserved in the Churburg Castle museum.

It is equipped with a V-shaped stop rib, also called “lisière d’arrêt”. The straps are made of durable leather and fasten at the back. The neck, armpits and bottom edge of the armor are finished by a rolling trim which was typically used for all body armor of this style. Our Steel Breastplate can be crafted from tempered steel, stainless steel or titanium. It makes an excellent set with Churburg Arms and the Bascinet of Charles VI.     Very good quality product, looks even better than in the picture. It domes very well. Also, they are able to make you fitting backplate making it complete cuirass. Fits very well. Communication is on spot. I have nothing bad to say about this product.

    I im still speechless... Its soo wellmade!! It fits like a glove!! The overall shape is realy rounded up like the original hisorical surviving pieces!! Its not like a cheap mass produced flat weird shaped piece of steel. No.. This is craftsmanship! Would I reccomend others to buy there armour over here?! Absolutely!! No doubt about it!!     Very high quality armor. The pricing is excellent and the piece is truly well made. It’s durable, aesthetically brilliant, light, and well-fitted. Both the steel and straps are high quality. I was initially hesitant with the shipping cost and the wait, but upon receiving the piece it was everything I hoped for and more. Definitely buying from Forge of Svan again! I even received a complimentary maintenance kit with mine!

    Very high quality armor at a low price. It is light, sturdy, aesthetically pleasing, and comfortable. It has taken its fair share of hard hits, all with minimal damage. Well worth the wait. Would recommend.
