Brigandine Spaulders
Brigandine armor is composed of plates riveted to cloth or leather. This type of armor design was really popular and common in Medieval Europe. Obviously, it was much easier (and cheaper as well) to use pieces of iron or steel than to shape a flat sheet of metal. Images of brigandine type spaulders can be find on numerous paintings and manuscripts of the XV century. For example, we see the army equipped with brigandine spaulders on the medieval art masterpiece: “The Adoration of the Magi” c. 1450, by Jean Fouquet (1420-1480).
Our Brigandine Spaulders consist of a round dish-shaped plate that covers the shoulder joint to which three curved lames are attached. The metal elements are riveted to the base material which can be fabric + canvas or suede leather + canvas according to your preference. We use canvas as the lining in order to provide long lasting material and the best durability possible for the shell covering. The wide range of colors available gives you the possibility of creating your own unique style. If you would like for the Brigandine Spaulders to be made in different colors (as seen on the photos) – just send us an email with your order.
This shoulder protection is suitable for use in HMB, IMCF, and SCA medieval combat. Please refer options below to choose your preferred material for the metal elements and shell covering.
Please note, that measurements should be with padding/gambeson.
