In the second part of the XVI century the effectiveness of gunpowder increased. Consequently, the armories that produced firearms began to prevail over those that produced armor. There was a need to strengthen armor, especially that of the chest, against bullets. This led heavier and heavier armor.  These modifications prompted the knights to refuse less important armor elements in favor of heavy breast plates and cuirasses. By the last quarter of the 16th century, only the most conservative warriors wore a full set of armor to the battlefield.

Our English Civil War Cuirass is named for the English Civil War (1642–1651). During this conflict this type of body protection was commonly worn over a buff coat. It consists of a breastplate and back-plate. There are three fastening points: two leather straps on the top and a leather belt on the front, all riveted to the back-plate. The breastplate has a reinforced central rib and a corselet in a straight line .

Our English Civil War Cuirass can be made from mild steel, tempered steel, stainless steel or titanium according to your needs. The pictured leather belt with a massive steel buckle is included. This XVII century armor can be used for reenactments or LARPs.
