Medieval breastplate armor with a decorative V-shaped rib

Churburg Castle offers a lot of excellent examples of the finest medieval armor. It was founded in 1253-1259 by Henry de Montfort, who was a bishop of Chur. The name of the castle comes from the name of rank of this medieval noble. The castle is located in South Tyrol in the village of Schluderns (Sluderno). It was built on a hill, and can be seen from any point of the village. The armor collection of Churburg coontains well preserved examples of medieval helmets, cuirasses, breastplates, and leg and arm protection.
In 2015 we visited Churburg Castle to in order to touch true medieval history. At the museum store we found a real treasure: a photo book of the armor collection. The photographer Carlo Paggiarino paid attention to the smallest details. If you have the opportunity we recommend you get a copy of “The Churburg armoury. Many noteworthy knights of the Early Middle Ages made use of reinforced mail. However, mail was weak against halberds and bows. Due to its many connective lines and gaps, it could be pricked, parted, or sundered by the cutting edge of a sword or tip of a lance. Moreover, reinforced mail armor had multiple layers which caused discomfort and eventually faded from use. In the search for greater protection and flexibility, new types of armor were developed to fulfill both requirements. Tightly fitted coats of plates and brigandines came into popular use and were common in Europe up to the last quarter of the XV century.

Our Churburg Style Brigandine consists of a large chest plate, back plates, and rectangular hip plates.  The upper back plate overlaps the right and left back plates (or can be secured under them). Our Churburg Brigandine has fastenings on the front, sides and back.  This provides flexibility in how you put it on and takes into account multiple padding and arm harness configurations. All straps are made from high-quality durable leather which allow for ease of adjustment and maximum comfort. The shell covering material can be crafted from wool or suede leather and will be reinforced with a layer of canvas.

Our Churburg Style Brigandine can be done in the same custom 1/2 or 1/4 color design as seen on our Corazzina Type-2 Multicolor or Corazzina Type-3 Multicolor.     Je l'ai prise en cuir + titane .....résultat = impressionnant de légèreté (5kg) On a une impression de "Presque trop léger pour se sentir en sécurité", mais c'est qu'une fausse impression ! Juste un bémol cependant, un rivet qui à sauté à lors du déballage du colis ....mais bon ! good stuff !!
